SELEX Sistemi Integrati sells civil ATC systems to China
19 March - SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, has
won a $19m contract from the Civil Aviation Administration of China
(CAAC) to provide eight air traffic control (ATC) radar
systems.
The company will supply four primary radars,
one of which will be in L band and three in S band, all equipped
with solid state technology, and four S mode secondary radars.
The sensors will be located in four different
sites, belonging to three out of the seven flight information
regions (FIR) in which China is divided.
In particular, the systems will be installed
in Wuzhong, in the North-West flight information region; in
Chongquing, in the central South region; and in Guangzhou and
Sanya, in the South Eastern region. The Sanya equipment, on
Hainan Island, will be
placed near the already operational SELEX Sistemi Integrati
systems, which was implemented in the early 1990s. They will be
part of the radar network managing of the ATC over the crowed South
Pacific air routes.
The solid state technology primary radars to
be delivered to China also represent an important reaffirmation
from a technological point for SELEX Sistemi Integrati, which
continues to design, produce and sell vanguard systems.
In China, SELEX Sistemi Integrati has more
than 30 years’ experience with its products used for ATC. The most
recent contract dates back to 2003, since when SELEX Sistemi
Integrati has been working on logistic support and on upgrading
systems in operation throughout the Chinese territory, including
during the 2008 Olympic Games.
