SELEX Sistemi Integrati at Defence Service Asia 2010

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica Company, and world leader in defence, civil and air traffic control (ATC) and management systems and sensors, with a customer base in over 150 countries, is participating at the Defence Service Asia (DSA) exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – one of the major aerospace and defence sector events in Asia.

In Malaysia, as well as in other countries in South-East Asia, SELEX Sistemi Integrati has a relevant presence as a leading supplier of electronic systems for air defence, naval applications and air traffic management (ATM).

The Italian company’s long tradition in Malaysia is demonstrated by the presence of two important companies established with local industries: Comlenia – a joint company between SELEX Sistemi Integrati and Comintel, which provides naval logistics and technical support for systems on board the Laksamana Class corvettes of the Royal Malaysian Navy; and Advanced Air Traffic (AAT) systems – a joint venture between SELEX Sistemi Integrati and other Malaysian equity participants, for technical support and maintenance of ATC/ATM radar systems.

The Malaysian market is deemed strategically important for SELEX Sistemi Integrati. In fact, since the 1990s, the Company has provided many primary radars, secondary radars and ATC control centres in several Malaysian airports. The latest contract in the ATC domain dates back to 2009, through which SELEX Sistemi Integrati will equip eight airports in the country. The agreement includes an ATCR33-S primary radar which will be integrated with a SIR-S secondary radar already supplied by SELEX Sistemi Integrati, systems for centres, control tower and simulation and training for a total of 66 operator posts. All the equipment will be interconnected, and will give birth to the national integrated air control system, which will provide 90% radar coverage of the Malaysian skies, also thanks to the previous supplies, all by SELEX Sistemi Integrati. This will align Malaysia to the most advanced ATC operational levels.

In the air defence sector, the National Air Defence of Malaysia has acquired three RAT 31 family radar systems; they are the mostly sold radar systems into NATO during the past five years.

At DSA 2010, as part of the Finmeccanica stand (4102 in Hall 4), SELEX Sistemi Integrati will be presenting its most important products and programmes, showcasing its capabilities in the fields of air defence, homeland security and naval systems. In particular, the company will exhibit a RAT 31DL model, a Vessel Traffic Management System demonstrator for port security and MedusaMK4/L, an electro-optic (EO) naval sensor.

Air Defence Systems Capability

SELEX Sistemi Integrati’s capabilities find their natural application in the battlefield and in air defence, through solutions that are highly effective in strategic and tactical terms. SELEX Sistemi Integrati‘s leadership in the battlefield digitalisation allows the company’s systems to supply the command with clear strategic and tactical frame of the friend and foe deployments.

Product on show: RAT 31 DL

SELEX Sistemi Integrati is at the forefront of long-range radar technology with RAT31/DL, a proven state-of the art, 3D long range radar system, available in fixed (FADR-Fixed Air Defence Radar), transportable and mobile (Deployable Air Defence Radar – DADR) configurations. The sensor is effective to a range of over 500km, is an advanced L-band solid state phased array, 3D surveillance radar, with an advanced architecture incorporating multiple simultaneous phase controlled pencil beams, which are all proven solutions already in use in many radars of the same family. RAT 31/DL can operate in full frequency agility mode, guaranteeing resistance against Anti-Radiation Missiles (ARM) and Electronic Counter Measures (ECM). It meets the latest NATO standards, has full NATO interoperability, and has been developed to satisfy future defence requirements. RAT 31/DL is the most sold radar system into NATO in the last five years. Additionally, of the nine countries worldwide having acquired a total of 34 radar systems, seven of them belong to NATO.
