CNI Market Drivers

Within the CNI markets, many organisations, especially in the rail, air traffic management and energy sectors, share the same key drivers – improving service quality; delivering services at a lower cost; and minimising harmful effects to the environment.

  • Improved service qualityrail organisations are striving to provide people with the service they are entitled to. For example, Network Rail is investing £28.5 billion over the next five years, including £7.6 billion on network expansion projects, to address key service improvements including initiatives such as the Seven-Day Railway. There is also significant investment in London, including the modernisation of the London Underground system and the Crossrail project.
  • Improved efficiencies – organisations are striving to deliver the same quality of service at a lower price – accelerated by the current global economic downturn. This means improving strategic planning and decision making, increasing the span of control, and making better use of their assets.
  • Environmental Impact – as protecting the environment is now a global concern, governments have implemented a series of measures to help contain the ongoing pollution of our planet. For example, in Air Traffic Control, the target is to reduce fuel usage and hence carbon emissions by developing more direct and efficient air routes, whilst the energy sector is looking to increase the contribution of low emission and renewal energy sources.
