The Emergency Planning Society Annual Conference and Exhibition
2010
21-23 June 2010 – SECC, Glasgow, UK
Conference Theme: Learning
from the Past to Gain a Foothold in the Future?
The Emergency Planning Society (EPS) is the
UK’s professional body for all those involved in any form of
crisis, emergency or disaster planning and management. The EPS
Annual Conference and Exhibition brought participants together from
central and local government, the emergency services, the health
services, commerce, industries, utilities, transport industry and
voluntary organisations to explore the key current and emerging
challenges in the field of emergency planning.
SELEX Systems Integration was proud to be the
Learning and Development co-sponsor for this event through the Gold
Standard Programme, together with the Emergency Planning College
(EPC).
It is important that all those within an
organisation who may be involved in planning for and responding to
an emergency should be appropriately prepared. Training and exercising are core components of
this preparation – and the EPC courses provide key skills and
knowledge for preventing, planning for, responding to or recovering
from a major incident. Gold Standard
exercises achieve three main purposes: to validate plans; to
develop staff competencies and give them practice in carrying out
their roles in emergency plans (training); and to test
well-established procedures. Both Gold Standard and the EPC are key
enablers in meeting the aim of the UK Cabinet Office to “reduce the
risk from emergencies so that people can go about their business
freely and with confidence”.
Gold Standard and
the EPC took centre stage in the Learning and Development Zone
(stands 3, 4 and 5) and our team of dedicated staff were on hand to
discuss any training and development needs that participants had –
either individually or as a team (both single and multi-agency).
The Gold Standard team also had a mini-exercise running throughout
the event, so that participants could see the product that is used
to deliver a Gold Standard
exercise and gain a better understanding of the level of
fidelity and complexity that is provided.
