COBRA: Training System Development
SELEX Systems Integration (formerly VEGA) developed the
training system for the COunter Battery RAdar (COBRA) programme
produced by Thales and Euro-Art on behalf of the Organisation
Conjoint de Co-operation en matiere d'ARmement (OCCAR).
Challenge
OCCAR was established by Administrative Arrangement on 12
November 1996 by the Defence Ministers of France, Germany, Italy
and the UK, with the aim of providing more effective and efficient
arrangements for the management of certain existing and future
collaborative armament programmes.
COBRA is a collaborative programme between Germany, France and the
UK for the production of long-range battlefield radar that is
considered to be the world's most advanced weapon location system.
Training support for such an advanced piece of equipment was
paramount to Thales Defence Ltd and Euro-Art GmbH, so they turned
to VEGA to provide support.
How SELEX Systems Integration Helped
SELEX Systems Integration’s Computer Based Trainer (CBT)
initially supported training of COBRA cadre personnel (training the
trainers) but its main purpose is to provide classroom training of
COBRA maintainers. It is primarily a classroom training system, but
can also be used in standalone mode on single and dual-screen
PCs.
The CBT embeds the power of SELEX Systems Integration's leading
Equipment Emulation technology within a traditional computer-based
training structure, enabling students to learn maintenance
procedures through the philosophy of tell, show, practice and
test.
Value Delivered
The CBT is one of a family of training aids being produced by
Euro-Art for COBRA which is being procured on behalf of the UK,
French and German armies. The CBT is internationalised for Western
European languages and delivered in English, French and German.
